The Lethbridge Public Library’s Main Branch is located in the heart of downtown at 810, 5th Avenue South. The Main Branch has been an exceedingly well-visited and valued community building since it opened in 1974.  Major milestones have included a 20,000 sq. ft. extension to the original building in 1992 and a South wing update in 2007.

A Main Branch Modernization Project was announced in 2015, with funding from the Government of Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, the Library and the City of Lethbridge.  This revitalization has improved the functionality of the building and modified its spaces to incorporate the changing roles of today’s Library: more space for adult programming; additional public use computers, an update to the children’s area and a new roof were just a few of the highlights.  Read On Adult Literacy and Learning Services located at the Main Branch, was also expanded.

The Library’s Main Branch includes the Senator Buchanan room which houses a southern Alberta history collection. The Millennium Garden at the Main Branch, opened in 1999, is a specific style of Japanese garden known as a View Garden. The Branch’s Lois Hole Garden, was completed by the Lethbridge and District Horticultural Society in 2005.
