Local History
The Library’s local history room includes information for genealogy seekers, local history buffs, Alberta historians, and so much more. This collection was started by Senator Buchanan, and local historian Alex Johnston was involved in procuring parts of the collection.
Where: The Senator Buchanon Room is located in the North Upper wing of our Main Branch in downtown Lethbridge.

What's Available: The Senator Buchanan room hosts a collection of records and documents, archiving local history. To assist in reading these records, we have a publicly accessible microfilm/fishe reader.

Available for free online in both English and French, The Canadian Encyclopedia includes more than 19,500 articles in both languages on numerous subjects including history, popular culture, events, people, places, politics, arts, First Nations, sports and science.

As of January 1, 2019, Canadiana.org now provides open and free access to a large collection of full-text historical content about Canada, including books, magazines and government documents.
Peel's Prairie Provinces is a resource dedicated to assisting scholars, students, and researchers of all types in their exploration of western Canadian history and the culture of the Canadian prairies.
The twin goals of the Lois Hole Campus Alberta Digtal Library (LHCADL) digitization program are to digitize materials of importance to Albertans and to create electronic repositories to manage and preserve born-digital Alberta content. In order to meet these goals, the University of Lethbridge Library's digitization team has worked with The Alberta Library and representatives from the other three university libraries to coordinate efforts.
